VOD service and DVR demand rapidly increasing

According to the 'On-Demand Quarterly' forecast by MAGNAGLOBAL, video on demand (VOD) service in the next 5 years by the end of 2016 will come to more than 70.1 million households. According to the survey there are 51.1 million household currently using the VOD service which was calculated till the end of third financial quarter of 2010.In the meantime, MAGNAGLOBAL predicts DVR subscribers will be present in 61.8 million households by the end of 5 years which is by the end of 2016. This is up 32% from the present 37.9 million households which make use of the DVR facility.

Further research from MAGNAGLOBAL reveal that the end of September 2010 saw 83.6 million homes online. Out of these 83.6 million homes which were online, 90.4% of them were using the internet from their broadband provider. And this should increase to 98.8 million homes by the end of 5 years that is by the end of 2016 according to MAGNAGLOBAL.If spoken in regards to country, then after US it is UK which stands strong in using the DVR and VOD service. And out of the entire population using these services, 70% of them buy the services from Sky while 30% of them prefer to go to Virgin.

Virgin revealed that during the third quarter of 2010 they observed 73 million VOD service views each month from their 2.8 million subscribers which means each household on an average would view about 33 VOD videos each month. This is up from the 31 views during the second quarter of 2010.
